On 7th November 2024, Adam Roney, our Founder and CEO, had the honour of speaking at the prestigious 17th Annual Global Law Firm Leaders Conference in London. Organised by Sandpiper Partners LLC and hosted by Clifford Chance, the event assembled key figures from the legal sector to engage in thoughtful dialogue about the future of law firm leadership and innovation.
Panel Discussion: Opportunities and Risks of Artificial Intelligence for the Practice of Law
Adam contributed to the panel titled “Opportunities and Risks of Artificial Intelligence for the Practice of Law,” a dynamic session exploring how generative AI is reshaping the legal landscape. He discussed the transformative potential of AI, particularly in helping law firms scale their operations and distinguish themselves in a competitive marketplace. Adam stressed the importance of moving beyond simply using tools like Microsoft Copilot, to develop customised, client-facing AI solutions that are poised to redefine the delivery of legal services.
The panel also examined the strategic integration of AI within legal practices, balancing innovation with risk management. Moderators Kevin Doolan, Managing Partner at Strategy Four and Harvard Law School Executive Education Professor, and Carrie Fletcher, Research Fellow at the London Business School Leadership Institute, guided the lively discussion. The session featured expert contributions from fellow panellists Jessica Clay, Partner at Kingsley Napley LLP; Robert Maddox, International Counsel at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP; John Patten, Partner at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP; and Nikita Sood, Managing Director at FTI Consulting.
Future Opportunities for Law Firms
Throughout the discussion, the consensus emerged that law firms ready to embrace AI strategically will be best positioned for future success. The panellists highlighted that firms must not only address the technological opportunities but also remain mindful of the risks associated with rapid advancements in AI. The need for proactive AI risk management, budget considerations, and keeping pace with evolving regulations were all critical points explored.
Special appreciation goes to the moderators, organisers, and hosts for creating an engaging conference filled with insightful discussions and valuable networking opportunities. We are also deeply grateful to the attendees for their enthusiastic participation and thought-provoking questions, which sparked meaningful conversations both during and after the event.
